Ready to Quit?
Quitting tobacco is never easy, but Tobacco Free Florida has tools and resources to help you on your journey.
What is Tobacco Free Florida?
Smoking is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States. Quitlines have been developed to provide free tools and resources to those interested in quitting smoking. Tobacco Free Florida (TFF) is a state program to help prevent and reduce tobacco use. Each year TFF reaches millions of Floridians and assist them on their journey to a smoke-free life.
What are the benefits of quitting smoking?
Your body begins to heal almost immediately after quitting.
- In 2 to 8 weeks, your risk of a heart attack declines dramatically, and your lung function begins to improve.
- In 1 to 9 months, you will experience a decrease in coughing and shortness of breath.
- In 1 year, your risk of a heart attack drops sharply.
- In 2 to 5 years, your risk from smoking is reduced to that of a non-smoker’s.
- In 5 years, your chances of getting mouth, throat, esophagus, and bladder cancer are cut in half.
- In 10 years, your lung cancer death rate is about half that of a non-smoker’s, and your risk for kidney and pancreatic cancer lowers significantly.
- In 15 years, your coronary heart disease risk is back to the same as a non-smoker’s.
