Funding Opportunities

To bolster the success of junior investigators with developing research programs that address questions and/or knowledge gaps in HIV-associated malignancies, the PAVILION team will competitively award innovative pilot research projects studying infection-related cancers among people living with HIV (PLWH) across the cancer continuum (Area 1). Each PAVILION site will solicit applications from junior investigators from a variety of disciplines (clinicians and non- clinicians) with a demonstrated interest in cancer research among PLWH. Pilot grant applications will be reviewed with the goal of supporting 4 pilot grant applications per year for a total of 20 supported pilot studies over the award period.

  • Projects are funded for 1 year (12 months) and may be approved for an additional 6 month no cost extension.
  • Applicants may request up to $10,000 (total costs). The PI’s institution will be responsible for managing the funds for the project.
  • Junior investigators employed by or affiliated with a PAVILION site (Moffitt Cancer Center, Vanderbilt University, Stellenbosch University, and University of Zimbabwe) are eligible to apply. Junior investigators in the US must partner with an investigator at either Stellenbosch University or University of Zimbabwe for their projects.

Awarded investigators will be mentored to build their expertise and success in competing for future extramural funding and publication of peer reviewed manuscripts. Junior investigators will receive feedback and guidance through the various stages of final research grant preparation, protocol development, and project management, to support development of pilot data that can be leveraged to achieve fundable scores on extramural grant applications.
