Samir Nacer, MDPathology Resident, CVDr. Nacer is a pathology resident at USF and researcher in Dr. Rasool Ghulam’s laboratory, where his work focuses on the development and evaluation of foundation models in computational pathology. His research examines how large-scale, multimodal AI systems—ranging from image-only vision transformers to vision–language frameworks—can be applied to digital pathology tasks such as tumor classification, report generation, and biomarker prediction. At Dr. Ghulam’s lab, he has contributed to comparative analyses of emerging models like PLIP, UNI, Prov-GigaPath, Phikon, Virchow, and H-Optimus-0, as well as reviews on generative and diffusion-based architectures. He also is looking forward to piloting Honeybee for tumor spatial analysis of brain related metastases.
