Sun SAGE is a research study funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH). The purpose of this study is to examine how different messages about risk of skin cancer can help people improve skin cancer prevention. Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the U.S., but many people don’t practice routine sun protection measures. Our goal is to find the best ways to encourage prevention and early detection.
Skin cancers are the most diagnosed cancer in the United States and can occur in people of any race or ethnicity. Ultraviolet radiation, especially that received from the sun, is a major cause of skin cancers. However, only a minority people in the United States practice routine sun protection. Because skin cancers are visible lesions, they can be detected at an early disease stage through skin examination.
