Lab_Valdes Summer 2025 Internship

Dr. Gilmer Valdes, Associate Member, Director of Clinical AI, and Vice Chair in the Department of Machine Learning at Moffitt Cancer Center, invites applications for his Lab Summer 2025 Internship. This 8-week internship offers students the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking work in clinical artificial intelligence and medical research, focusing on advancing open-source infrastructure for clinical language models. 

Our mission is to revolutionize medical research and machine learning by building a meticulously curated open-source infrastructure to develop state-of-the-art clinical language models. By fostering a collaborative, open-source approach, we aim to empower researchers, developers, and healthcare professionals to advance generative AI in medicine, ultimately transforming patient care and medical research worldwide.

Interns will contribute to innovative projects, including but not limited to:

  • LLM Evaluation, Fine-tuning, and Training: Experimentation and enhancement of clinical language models, with a specialized focus on cancer-related applications.
  • Development and Implementation of Benchmarks: Creating and optimizing benchmarks to evaluate clinical AI models, emphasizing performance in cancer-related contexts.
  • Dataset Creation and Optimization: Curation, annotation, and enhancement of open-source text datasets for training clinical AI models.

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or residents currently enrolled in a college or university.
