Margaret M Byrne, PhD
Principal Investigator
My main research interests focus on how to help individuals make the best decision for themselves in situations where there is no one right answer. Specific areas that I’ve done the most work in include participation in cancer clinical trials and lung cancer screening. In addition, I collaborate extensively on cost assessment/cost effectiveness research that crosses many different health care areas. Outside of work, my favorite activities include: skydiving; being outside, especially on the water; reading work and non-work related books; and spending time with my friends of both the human and feathered variety.

I began my research career at Moffitt Cancer Center in the neuro-oncology clinic in August 2022 as a Research Coordinator with the Caregiver Assistance through Resources, Information, and Navigation Guide in Neuro-Oncology (CARING) and Total Cancer Care (TCC) studies following an extensive career in clinical medicine. I earned my Bachelor of Music in 2016 at Wheaton College and my Master of Science in Medical Sciences at the University of South Florida in 2019. Moffitt has nurtured wonderful growth in my professional development. I now serve as NTRO Research Study Specialist managing portfolios for Dr. Byrne and the Neuro TCC studies, facilitating and leading research projects and mentoring team members.

Jeffrey Lee
Intern
I joined the Byrne Lab in 2025 as a student researcher. Currently a Psychology major within the University of South Florida’s Judy Genshaft Honors College, I am pursuing a pre-medicine track with a focus on how individuals navigate healthcare decisions. I am particularly interested in the integration of both behavioral science and data analysis. Beyond the lab, I am dedicated to helping others reach their goals, serving as a Certified Personal Trainer at the USF Recreation & Wellness Center and a tutor for ESL students. In my free time, I enjoy staying active through pickleball, walking, and exploring scenic locations.
