Cancer and Relationships
Cancer doesn’t just affect the person who gets diagnosed. It also affects the people around them who care about or care for them.
The Cancer and Relationships (CaRe) Lab is focused on understanding the cancer experience within a social context. Specifically, many of our studies are about how people communicate, relationship quality, and social support. For example, we study how providers and families communicate about cancer, how patients and their families cope with cancer together, and how patients and family caregivers find and use support.
We use this information from our research to develop strengths-based interventions to improve patient and family quality of life.
